Bride and groom walking together and laughing

Ben & Teigan — Goolawah Bush & Beach Retreat

Ben & Teigan’s relaxed summer wedding at Goolawah Bush & Beach Retreat.

Teigan and Ben started their wedding morning at Goolawah Bush & Beach Retreat, just outside Crescent Head on the Mid North Coast of NSW. It had that easy coastal feel from the start: everyone getting ready nearby, family and friends drifting in and out, a few good laughs and exactly what they wanted before the ceremony began.

The outdoor ceremony area at Goolawah Bush & Beach Retreat is such a great backdrop from every angle, with everyone close enough that it felt properly personal. There were a few big laughs too. I mean, when a groom gets carried in to The Lion King soundtrack, you know you’re in for something different.

A few nerves, those little looks that you know mean everything, and then the kind of confetti exit that makes the walk back down the aisle feel like the party had properly started.

After the ceremony we kept things easy and didn’t disappear for hours. A few photos on the road, a few with the wedding party, and then straight back to everyone else. Goolawah Bush & Beach Retreat has loads of little spots like this, so you don’t need to overcomplicate it or turn the portraits into a full photoshoot.

That’s usually how I like to do it. Enough time to get the good stuff, but not so much that you feel like you’ve vanished from your own wedding.

The rest of the night was exactly what you want from a wedding at Goolawah Bush & Beach Retreat. Speeches that had everyone laughing, a few emotional tears, a cake cut that didn’t need turning into a big production, a first dance under the lights, and then everyone properly getting stuck in on the dance floor!

We finished with one of my “iconic” champagne sprays, which is always slightly crazy and usually brilliant. An epic way to finish in style.
